What kind of deployment you have done on the server i.e, Development / Production?
After deployment we generally restart SMP server. After successful restart of server please verify the server startup.log file to see whether your app got loaded / not. (means your app URL loaded message will be displayed at the end).
As requested by Bill, please verify your WPF client version and your client version should be compatible with SMP Server & SDK versions.
Below are the latest available SMP versions.
SMP Server: SP9 PL3
SMP SDK : SP10 PL6
Also make sure on the server configuration settings for java class path, back end server information & Port details in JavaBE.ini file.
Other root causes of the communication error are related to network failure and VPN dropouts if youa re connecting to the app through VPN.
So please also verify server proxy settings and network connectivity.
Please maintain proper server URL address when try to connecting app from device.
